Minority Serving Institution

As CU Denver works towards our Strategic Plan Goal 1 in becoming the nation’s first equity-serving institution, the Office of Research Services (ORS) has created this webpage to support research and creative activity teams as they navigate opportunities related to any Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) status.

We’d like to emphasize for our research and creative works teams that, although our institution has qualified and been awarded this Fiscal Year 2022 Department of Education AANAPISI Program grant, we are not necessarily eligible to submit to other externally sponsored opportunities limited to MSIs. For any questions regarding our eligibility, please contact Terry Hughes (terence.hughes@ucdenver.edu), Executive Director in the Office for DEI, or reach out to the Office of Research Services for assistance.

07/13/23: The University of Colorado Denver is now included as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI) in the latest U.S. Department of Education Eligibility Matrix for FY 2023. The Eligibility Matrix consists of programmatic lists of institutions that meet the definitions of the Minority Serving Institution (MSI) program areas, and assists sponsors with confirming eligibility for opportunities limited to institutions of higher education that serve these minority populations. More information can be found here.

05/18/23: The ORS is thrilled by the announcement from Chancellor Marks that CU Denver | Anschutz is now officially an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI)! For more information regarding this announcement, please refer to the FAQs about AANAPISI Status page.
